Feng Shui and Landscaping

Feng Shui Life By The Car Shui Staff

Car Shui Newsletter | June 08 | Volume 1, No. 2 This month we will be discussing the different ways to use landscaping and Feng Shui water fountains and or features as tools to help direct the way Qi enters and flows through your home.

Before we can consider how to get the Qi to flow through your home, we must attract it onto your property and then move it towards your front door. The relationship between your homes' landscaping and its physical structure is an important aspect of Feng Shui. Several different traditional techniques can be used to direct the Qi and then align it with the architectural aspects of the building.

Below is a list of things to consider when we are directing the Qi from the outer perimeters of the property, towards the main entrance of your home.

1. In a best case scenario, the doorway to your home should be facing north. If it is not a north facing doorway, we can implement a cure that will help attract more Qi onto the property.

2. Water features are one way to help increase and redirect the flow of energy to the front door. If possible, put a water fountain or feature somewhere in the vicinity of you front door. Try to set up the fountain so the water is not pouring vertically. Instead, choose a fountain or hand made feature where the water is flowing towards the front door of your house before the pump starts to re-circulate the water. The direction of the water flow is important, because the Qi will be attracted towards the movement of the water and this helps to ensure a controlled flow of energy to the front door of your house.

3. Ideally, your front door should have a glass window on top or on the sides to ensure the flow of Qi through the house. Qi does not flow through solid objects and we are trying to make it easy for energy to flow freely from one end of the structure to the other. If you do not have a front door with windows, place your water feature so the water flows towards the window closest to the front door. This way, we are directing the energy towards the homes' entrance and allowing it to more easily enter the physical building.

4. Also, it is best not to have trees and hedges that block the path to the front door. If you have a door without windows and hedges, and trees are blocking your windows, then the Qi has no place to enter. Try to at least trim the hedges, so some of the window is showing and at the same time allowing for a bit of privacy. If privacy is not an issue, trim the hedges to the bottom of the lower window sills.

If you try a few of these simple techniques, you will be amazed at how the changes in landscaping and the addition of one or two simple features outside your property will greatly benefit you when you begin to Feng Shui the inside of you home.
