Feng Shui For Your Kitchen
By Jiaying

A kitchen is the heart of
the home for the homekeeper. While we spend time in our
lounge room or reading areas and bedrooms our most vital
waking moments for many are in the Kitchen
Years past the hearth was seen as the heart of the home. It
was a place where the fire burned in winter and in the
colder climates this was much of the year And so the family
gathered around the hearth to get warmth and even use it for
cooking
Today most homes are centrally heated or have individual
heaters and so the day of the hearth has largely gone with
the exception of some more Icelandic communities. The
kitchen is now the queen of the home and in the modern home
the dining area is attached and with many homes the sitting
area is alongside the kitchen which is really a re-creatiion
of the ancient hearth concept.
What then in Feng Shui makes a good kitchen where the "chi"
energy is flowing and present. The doorways into a kitchen
are important to energy flow. If the kitchen is open to a
main door or a back door the 'chi' energy can leak away and
the resulting effect can be loss of appetite and fellowship.
The effects on your cooking can be harmful too - not in any
dramatic way but simply a diminished quality of cooking and
spirit of cooking can occur. Such effects are subtle and may
not be easily noticed but they can take their toll on your
whole spirit of the kitchen.
The kitchen is a place for
brightness and freshness and the effect of lovingly arranged
fresh flowers and living plants and bright colorful
decorations ( not overdone ) will add to the spirit of the
area
Kitchens can be overloaded with gadgets an its wise to keep
the kitchen area clean and simple with good airflow to keep
the freshness. Add to this the rule for all areas of our
homes is to keep clutter at bay. Dont leave your kitchen
overloaded with unwashed dishes in your sink on table this
is a form of clutter which is negative in its effects.
Finally the colors of the kitchen in feng shui should have
plenty of yellow a sort of butter yellow not the darker
tone.Yellow is a color that is recognised as good for
digestion.
